  • What should I keep in mind while searching for a pest control company?

There are a number of tips you can follow when looking for pest management experts to service your home, business, or other property:

    1. Ask neighbors for references. Word of mouth is a powerful tool to find out about the best - and worst - companies.

    2. Reputable pest control companies are licensed with your state's regulatory agency. Ask to see the credentials of the company and the service technicians they employ. The Department of Agriculture is also a great resource for this information.

    3. Memberships with industry associations, such as the National Pest Management Association, State Pest Management Association, Chambers of Commerce, and other related organizations are a strong indicator that a company stays up to date on ethical and technical practices.

    4. Check each company's knowledge on a variety of pests and construction types. Good companies should be able to service a wide variety of problems in most types of structures.

    5. Ensure the company provides thorough initial inspections, re-inspections, and re-treatment services, and provides an agreement or contract stating the terms of service.

  • Will the chemicals harm my family or pets?

No. Tennessee Valley Exterminating Company, Inc. uses chemicals that are found to be safe for humans, pets, and the environment. The products we use are tested thoroughly by their manufacturers, which are the same companies that produce pharmaceuticals in some cases, by independent labs, in long-term field studies, and they are then independently evaluated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ensure their safety. If you still have concerns, our integrated pest management company can answer your questions, or supply MSDS information and Label Specifications upon request.

  • If pests reappear after treatment, has my treatment service failed?

Not necessarily. It may be common to see pests reappear after an initial service. This may be the result of a "flushing" effect of some products used to bring the pest out of their harborage areas. Some pests, such as German Roaches, will require multiple, frequent treatments to control or eradicate them properly, so they may be still present after the first treatment. The level of an infestation is also a factor that determines the length of time, and number of services required to properly control a particular pest. Not every pest treatment is 100% effective on the first application - even from the most reputable companies. Remember, you're dealing with living creatures and they can often find unprotected gaps in the treatment barrier. Experienced pest control professionals will continuously service your home until the source of the problem is identified and eliminated.

  • Do you offer any "green" or non-chemical treatments?

We offer a variety of green programs that take a preventive approach toward pest control, thus significantly reducing the need for pesticides.

  • Can I get rid of the pests by myself?

There are many methods you can use to discourage and eliminate pests. The basis of any pest control starts with improved sanitation and eliminating conditions conducive to pest infestation. This may be enough to solve your problem, but there are times when more must be done to be pest free. This is when you should enlist the services of a qualified pest management professional.

  • If I fill out the Request Form and email it, am I obligated in any way?

There is no obligation; we want our customers to understand our programs and be completely satisfied with our services.

  • Do you guarantee your work?

We believe that quality counts; therefore, we warranty most programs.

  • Will you have to come more than once?

It will depend on the pest we are dealing with as well as the level of infestation.

  • When can I expect to see results?

We typically ask that you give the treatment 7-10 days, but there are situations where the results may be immediate.

  • How long will the service visit take?

The length of the service visit will vary depending on the pest and level of infestation, but typically the service takes about 30 minutes to an hour for pest control service. Termite treatments will take more time.

TERMITE FAQs

  • If I haven't see swarming termites, or traces of damage, can my home still be in danger?

Unfortunately, yes. When a colony swarms, the winged termites may be in the air for just a few minutes and you may not see them. Termites also eat wood from the inside out, making their activity detectable only by professional termite inspection.

  • When is the right time to call a termite professional?

The longer you delay treatment, the more damage termites can do. Repairs will become extensive, and more expensive. Generally speaking, the sooner you approve treatment, the better. Even if you have not seen evidence of termite activity or damage, it is important to have your home professionally inspected.

  • Aren't new homes and house with concrete slabs virtually termite-proof?

The experience of homeowners nationwide shows that no home, new or old, is safe from termites. By building mud tubes, termites can cross concrete, brick, cinder block, metal termite shields, pre-treated wood, and non-repellent chemical barriers. Only a professionally applied repellent termite treatment will prevent termite entry.

  • How do termites get in?

Because termites need moisture and have a low tolerance to moving air currents and light, they live underground, attacking a home from below. A loose mortar joint, a minute space around a drain pipe, or a settlement crack in the basement is all they need to gain entry.

  • How can a professional pest control firm help?

Only a trained professional understands the intricacies of how a termite colony behaves. Using advanced termiticide, a skilled, professional applicator can effectively protect your housing investment for years to come.

  • What should I know about a termite colony?

Subterranean termites are native to every state except Alaska. A colony may include up to several million individual termites, living as deep as 20 feet underground. They are dispersed throughout the soil at feeding sites around your home. Feeding on cellulose-based material, termites find human dwellings that offer the ideal combination of warmth, moisture, and food.

  • How do I save my home, and my budget, from being eaten full of holes?

Termites eat wood. In their natural state, they eat fallen logs and stumps off the forest floor. But on your property, they can eat away the equity you've built up in your home and property. Termites infest millions of homes nationwide, causing over $750 million in damage annually, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
